Corona and Riverside County

Drain Cleaning & Hydro Jetting

Corona's water is hard, about 8.5 grains per gallon on average, and the scale it leaves inside a drain gives grease and soap something to grip. Add the cast iron drains and clay laterals beneath the oldest houses inside the Grand Boulevard circle, and the grease and wipes that reach the younger lines of Dos Lagos and Eagle Glen, and most repeat clogs in town have a plain explanation. A camera goes down before any tool is chosen. If it shows grease, scale or roots, the hydro jetter usually gets the job, since it scrubs the pipe wall all the way around instead of opening one narrow channel.

Clogs that come back have a cause

Pushing a cable through a stoppage opens a channel about as wide as the cable head. Everything else clings to the pipe wall, and within weeks the channel narrows again. That is why a camera leads the way. On the screen you can tell a grease plug from a hair mat, a shelf of scale, the rust crust of old cast iron, a root mass or a broken joint, and each one calls for something different. Soft blockages near a fixture come out with a cable. The jetter handles grease, scale and roots. Cracked hubs and sagging runs get repaired, since cleaning never cures those.

The jetter's nozzle shoots water backward under high pressure. That pulls the hose forward, scours the whole circumference of the pipe, shaves roots off at the joints and flushes what it loosens toward the main. Corona's blend of desalted groundwater and Colorado River water still comes out hard by the city's own measure, and the scale it lays down coats traps, fixtures and drain walls alike. In the oldest houses near downtown, cast iron drains rust from the inside into a rough surface that catches grease, and clay laterals let roots in at every joint. What the camera shows sets how much pressure each pipe gets. Out in Dos Lagos, Eagle Glen and Green River Ranch the lines are younger, and the usual trouble is kitchen grease or wipes that went down a toilet.

Wastewater becomes the city's to handle once it reaches the public sewer, which the City of Corona Utilities Department collects and treats. The private lateral that carries it there from your house is generally the owner's, and that pipe is what we clean, film and repair. Condos and townhomes add a wrinkle: when a shared stack plugs, the first sign may be water backing up next door, so before any work we establish which line is plugged and which units feed it. The job ends with one more camera run, so the clean pipe sits on screen beside the footage of the clog.

  • Two or more drains slowing together, starting at the lowest fixture
  • A toilet that burbles while the washer or the tub empties
  • A clog that keeps returning, weeks after the last cleaning
  • A sewer smell indoors or around the outside cleanout
  • An older house near downtown with mature trees above its clay lateral and a record of backups

The camera goes down first

You watch the screen with us as the camera reaches the blockage and shows the pipe on either side of it.

A tool matched to the clog

A cable pulls hair and soap plugs out of a sink, tub or shower line. The jetter takes on grease, roots, scale and the rust lining of old cast iron.

One more look on camera

The final camera pass should show bare pipe all the way around, with no ring of grease or scale left behind.

Habits worth keeping

We leave you with a few kitchen and bath habits that help, plus a cleaning schedule if roots or restaurant grease are part of the story.

How drains get cleaned when Corona calls us

From our base in Corona we answer drain calls all over Riverside County, and a line cleared halfway just sets up the next backup. Four practices are part of every drain job.

Footage you see for yourself

The clog is on screen before the work and the clean pipe is on screen after it, so you judge the result with your own eyes.

All of the pipe wall

Grease, scale and roots come off every side of the pipe under the jet, where a cable would only bore a path down the center.

Plain water, no caustics

The jetter runs on water alone. Between visits, an enzyme cleaner does more good than store-bought caustic openers, which eat at aging cast iron and fittings.

Broken pipe gets named, not cleaned again

If the footage turns up a cracked hub, a separated clay joint or a low spot that explains the repeat clogs, we stop and show you. Paying for another cleaning that cannot last makes no sense, so we do not sell one.

Why two drain jobs are priced differently

Access counts first. A kitchen trap is easy, so is a cleanout beside the foundation, and many tubs clear through the overflow. Plenty of the oldest homes inside the Grand Boulevard circle were built with no lateral cleanout; then the line is reached from up on the roof at the vent, or at the flange after the toilet is lifted off, which adds setup. In condos and townhomes, a clog in a stack serving several units can mean working with the association.

Method and pipe come next. Cabling one fixture is a lighter job than jetting a lateral from the house all the way to the main, and a clay lateral packed with roots gets filmed before anything else. Long or deep runs take longer to trace. A break that shows up on camera turns into its own repair, and replacing a sewer lateral in Corona needs a permit from the City of Corona Building Division.

After the camera has shown what is inside, you get the price on paper, and the work begins only with your yes.

Drain calls across Riverside County

Corona is our base. Every drain call goes out from here, to whichever of the county's 28 cities the address is in.

Corona

Cast iron and clay laterals under the older houses inside the circle, kitchen lines coated with hard water scale in the slab tracts of South Corona and Sierra del Oro, shared stacks in condos and townhomes, and the younger drains of Dos Lagos, Eagle Glen and Green River Ranch.

Norco and Eastvale

Long lines from the house toward the barns on Norco's big lots, where some homes still run on septic, and the 2000s and 2010s tracts of Eastvale, where Jurupa Community Services District asks owners to skip self-regenerating salt softeners because of the salt they send down the sewer.

Jurupa Valley and Riverside

Very hard water in the Rubidoux district and septic on some rural lots in Jurupa Valley, then the clay laterals beneath the old street trees of Riverside's Wood Streets, where the city owns the lower lateral and a blockage on its side is reported through 3-1-1.

Lake Elsinore, Perris, Moreno Valley and the rest

Owner-maintained laterals under Eastern Municipal Water District standards in Perris and Moreno Valley, septic pockets around Lake Elsinore, the gated streets of Canyon Lake, and the county's 19 other cities, from Menifee to Coachella.

Straight talk about drain cleaning

Sound pipe takes jetting without harm. The risk is pipe that is already coming apart, and the camera run is how we find it: thinned cast iron or a clay joint that has opened is marked for repair and left alone by the jetter.

A snake makes a hole; a jetter makes a clean pipe. The snake opens a path for water and the jetter washes the length of the line, which is why a snaked line often closes again in the same place while a jetted one usually stays open far longer.

Old cast iron and clay under Corona's oldest houses can usually be jetted once the footage confirms their condition, with the pressure turned down where the wall has thinned. Roots that have split a clay joint mean a repair instead.

No two drain jobs are priced alike. The line that is blocked, the way in, the tool and the time it takes to find the trouble all count. You see the price in writing after the camera run and decide, and nothing is done before that.

A regular jetting schedule is overkill for most homes. Two exceptions: restaurant kitchens, and older Corona houses with big trees above a clay lateral. For those, one or two cleanings a year keep roots and grease from rebuilding the blockage.

Questions and answers

Drain Cleaning & Hydro Jetting: what callers want to know

Snake or jetter: how do you decide?
By looking first. One clog in one fixture, with clean pipe on either side, usually clears with a cable. A line that keeps closing up is another story: the camera tends to show a coat of grease and hard water scale, or roots at the joints, and only pressurized water takes that coat off. A cable just slides along it.
Will I get to see the inside of my pipe?
Yes. When a clog keeps coming back, the camera goes in and you watch with us. Roots at a joint, a crack, a belly holding water and cast iron rusted through all look different on screen, and each calls for its own fix.
Can jetting damage an old cast iron or clay line?
Not when the pipe is sound and the pressure suits it, which is what the camera run is for. Thinned cast iron gets a lower setting. A clay joint that roots have pried open, or a section that has dropped, is not jetted at all: we show you the footage and talk about a repair.
Why is my bathtub always the slow one?
Tub drains catch hair and soap, and Corona's hard water helps the two set into a mat in the trap, below where a plunger or a bottle of chemicals can work. A drum auger through the overflow pulls the mat out. When the tub is slow along with the toilet and the shower, the main line gets filmed, since an older house with a rooted clay lateral often warns you at the tub first.

Water leaking now

Someone picks up this phone at every hour of every day.

First, turn off the main water valve. In many Corona homes it sits where the supply line enters the house; in others it is at the meter box near the curb. Then call us, keep the phone to your ear for what to do next, and a plumber heads your way from Corona.
